MTEXT (Command) Find: Right-click in the in-place text editor > Background Mask List of Options The following options are displayed. Use Background Mask Puts an opaque background behind the text. Note: When you apply a background mask to text multiple columns only the column areas will be masked.

This is a simple but powerful LISP routine from Leland Leahy. It will remove the background mask from all mtext in an AutoCAD drawing. To use it, load the LISP routine and type in the command Demask. As explained in my email response to you: my Background Mask application simply provides a way to enable/disable & manipulate the standard AutoCAD background mask property, therefore, the issues you are experiencing pertaining to the display order of the background mask relative to other objects are likely to be a result of the draw-order of the objects in your drawing.
